ROSA ANGELOVA, PHD

PRINCIPAL & OWNER

An avid nutrition, fitness, and health enthusiast, Dr. Angelova is the owner and principal at BW Health Academy.  She earned her doctorate in nutrition from Cornell University and holds masters and undergraduate degrees in environmental science from Sofia University (in Bulgaria, her country of origin). 

 

Aside from her experience in academia, Rosa is an advanced yoga 

teacher (RYT 500/E-RYT 200) certified in prenatal yoga (RPYT) and a continuing education provider (YACEP) with the Yoga Alliance; a certified personal trainer (CPT) with specialties in behavior change (BCS) and corrective exercise (CES) with the National Academy for Sports Medicine; and a Barre Above certified group barre instructor.

MILEVA STURGIS, MA

FITNESS TRAINER | MOBILITY & PILATES

Coach Sturgis is an inspirational fitness coach and health educator with over a decade of experience.  A mother of twins, she has worked hard to strengthen her core after delivery, gaining unique insight into the challenge of building core strength, which is relevant to men and women alike.  Her personalized and attentive training approach makes her adept at working with people over 55, helping them maintain strength and agility while being mindful of each individual's physical capabilities.

 

Mileva holds a master of arts degree in Health Education from the University of Alabama.  She is also a certified personal trainer (CPT) and fitness nutrition specialist (FNS) with the National Academy of Sports Medicine, a certified health education specialist (CHES) with the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, and a Balanced Body certified Pilates instructor.

MUHAMMAD ABDUL-RAHEEM

FITNESS TRAINER | STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

Coach Abdul-Raheem is a highly qualified and talented physical fitness professional.  A former certified physical training  (PT) coordinator  and federal police officer with the US Secret Service, he is driven by a genuine lifelong commitment to helping others achieve excellent health.  Since 2011 Coach Mo's guidance has helped over 100 clients reach or exceed personal fitness goals 

through motivation and quality fitness education and training.

Mo is a certified personal trainer (CPT) and medical fitness professional (EIM) with the American College of Sports Medicine.  He is also a USA boxing certified coach, a certified American Muscle & Fitness personal trainer, and a graduate from the US Secret Service's James J. Rowley Training Center and the US Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. 

CARLY PACANOWSKI, PHD, RDN

ACADEMIC LIAISON | BEHAVIORAL HEALTH & NUTRITION

Dr. Pacanowski is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Behavioral Health and Nutrition at the University of Delaware. She teaches community nutrition to senior dietetics students and also a graduate course titled "Obesity."  Dr. Pacanowski received her PhD and RDN from Cornell University and completed her post-doctoral training at the University of Minnesota.

Carly's research interests focus on the intersection between eating disorders and obesity. She sees her research as a way to in fact unite the obesity and eating disorder fields, and study the overlapping behaviors that are practiced by some individuals with eating disorders, and taught to individuals with obesity. Her long-term vision is that working in the overlap of these fields will lead to improved quality of life (both physical and mental) for individuals with weight and eating-related issues. 

ILYA LYASHEVSKY, PHD

ACADEMIC LIAISON | EMOTIONAL RESILLIANCE & FLEXIBILITY

Dr. Lyashevsky teaches cognitive psychology at Columbia Teachers College and is a cofounder of Affectifi, which helps individuals and institutions develop greater emotional competence. He is also an author and a technologist. He has worked at startups as well as Fortune 500 companies and is the cofounder of WeShelter, a nonprofit using mobile technology to help alleviate homelessness. His writing has appeared in numerous literary publications.

 

Ilya received an EdM in cognitive psychology with a social emotional learning concentration from Columbia Teachers College, as well as an MS and BS in computer science from Stanford University. In April 2018 he completed his PhD in cognitive science at Columbia Teachers College where he currently teaches Cognition of Social Emotional Learning as an Adjunct Professor.
