Personal Fitness Trainer Openings

You will not be responsible for sales or booking your own schedule.

The candidates must be willing to drive to clients’ homes or worksites.  Fitness Trainers are responsible for leading well rounded functional group and/or private sessions as mutually agreed upon between trainer and BWHA management. The type of class may include, but is not limited to yoga, pilates, barre, sculpt, core, hiit, bootcamp, and will be assigned according to the trainer’s interest, expertise, and training. Trainers are expected to be able to utilize a variety of standard props (those relevant to the applicable modality) while reinforcing the BWHA core values and commitment to service. 

We are seeking trainers who specialize in fitness modalities from one of two areas – Strength & Endurance OR Balance & Flexibility:

  • Strength & Endurance Trainers include personal trainer, crossfit instructor, conditioning coach or related

  • Balance & Flexibility Trainers include yoga, pilates mat, barre instructor or related



  • Teamwork with management supervision and direction

  • Travel to clients’ home or worksite to preform sessions

  • Service fitness consultations, traditional (1-on-1) training, couples or small group training, virtual training, or additional programming opportunities as deemed appropriate by management

  • Demonstrate proper form and technique, paying attention to safety and risk factors appropriate to clients’ experience levels

  • Safely and effectively provide physical support and adjustments to clients (if client wishes) in order to facilitate correct alignment in postures

  • Offer information, guidance, encouragement and support to inspire clients to achieve their wellness goals

  • Develop warm, professional relationships with all clients to improve motivation and retention

  • Communicate appropriate client feedback to management

  • Uphold and promote BWHA’s brand, image and product (e.g., services, events, workshops)



  • Passion for health, fitness, nutrition and lifelong learning in these areas

  • Be coachable, dependable, responsible, reliable and honest

  • Have an outstanding work ethic and above average customer service skills

  • Ability to build rapport with clients

  • Ability to work well in a team and take direction from management

  • Understand and demonstrate principles of physical fitness and proper exercise technique with ability to provide safe movement modifications for different levels

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing 

  • Hands-on training and experience in areas such as corrective exercise, post-rehab, and injury prevention, are a plus


Schedule: You will be scheduled to work 1 shift every weekday and every other weekend. Shift hours are as follows:

Weekdays (Monday-Friday):

  • Morning shift: 6 AM-12 PM

  • Afternoon shift: 12 PM – 6 PM

Weekends (Saturday-Sunday):

  • Weekend shift: 7 AM – 1 PM


Job Location: Washington, DC 20024 - within 30 miles

Job Type: Contract (starting at 10 hours per week)

Compensation: $50+/hour commensurate with experience and performance

Required education & experience:

  • 1-3 years of personal training and/or group teaching experience in either a fitness facility or private training environment

  • Must be proficient in teaching individuals as well as varying class sizes

  • Graduation from a recognized 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training

  • Graduation from a recognized 500 hour Yoga Teacher Training preferred

  • Training in various fitness or Pilates modalities equaling 400 hours or more preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Exercise physiology, Kinesiology, Recreation or P.E. related field preferred

Required license & certification:

  • Valid driver's License

  • Nationally accredited Personal Training and/or Group Exercise certification (ACSM, NSCA, NASM, AFAA, and ACE preferred)

  • Yoga Alliance Certification and/or Barre/Pilates Certification, as appropriate

  • Current CPR/AED certification (from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross), or the ability to obtain such certification prior to hire

  • Current Fitness Liability Insurance, or the ability to obtain such insurance prior to hire
